Behind the Scenes: Councilman Knudsen’s Internal Emails With Law Enforcement

Records show that after the June 5th, 2020 Black Lives Matter rally in the City of Las Vegas, Councilman Brian Knudsen contacted former Director of Public Safety, Michele Freeman. He and his team offered suggestions for things they could work on together.

We thought you should see how Councilman Knudsen communicated with Director Freeman.

Essentially, Councilman Knudsen’s team noted the horrible condition of the Las Vegas City Jail. To give one example, the jail had a broken water fountain spigot that forced detainees to press their lips against the fountain. This was especially concerning as the pandemic raged on. Serving as an example of the type of revisions made, the Councilman’s team originally requested a follow up in order to discuss the broken spigot. The request for follow up was taken out.

As his assistant told the Councilman, “ I incorporated your suggestion on: less critical, no meeting, and no request for follow up… Additionally, the first 3 paragraphs come off as complimentary and friendly to address the less critical piece.”

Why did the Councilman not ask for a follow up? Why was he so concerned about coming off as friendly and complimentary when discussing the horrible conditions of the jail?
